2019 Spooptacular Horror Movie Recommendations, Part Two

Hey Friends! It’s October and we know that means you want to be watching horror movies! Well we here at Unwinnable put together a weekly list of flicks for you to tune into in your moments of indecision. Different folks might pop in and out over the month but here’s David, Levi, Noah and Stu with their picks for your weekend. Think of us as the surly, mostly tolerable video store employees and this our picks wall with some notes about why we think its worth your time.

New to this year is THEMES! David loves themes so this is his fault. This week’s theme is…..Eat the Rich!

Levi “EVIL DEAD 2: ELECTRIC BOOBECKALOO” Rubeck

Gremlins 2 (1990) – I am a spoopy baby and this spooped me.

Noah “David I Swear I Will Hurt You If You Make a Jerry Springer Joke” Springer

The Lair of the White Worm (1988) – isn’t as renowned as Ken Russels’ other works, and probably for good reason. Regardless, it’s a fun, weird, campy movie with an early performance by Hugh Grant that makes you wonder what other pagan rituals rich, British aristocrats are into.

The Invitation (2105) – This bottle movie certainly maintains plenty of tension, but the main horror is watching a dinner party full of rich people for the first hour.

David “Ghost Ship Fan Account” Shimomura

Resident Evil (Franchise) – I picked them all. An entire franchise about corporate malfeasance. Let them all burn.

Stu “Clever Halloween-Themed Name” Horvath

Masque of the Red Death (1964) – If you made me try to figure out the first horror story to nudge up against the theme “Eat the Rich,” I think I’d have to pick Poe’s “Masque of the Red Death.” So it is only fair, then, to recommend the phantasmagoric Roger Corman/Vincent Price adaptation of the same name. Prince Prospero is a real shit; watch him get what’s coming to him, but maybe have some antibacterial lotion handy.

Empire of the Ants (1977) – This movie terrified me as a kid (which, so did THEM! and that is half as unsettling, so maybe I just had an ant thing). Now I love it. 90 minutes of giant ants eating rich people. Workers of the world unite!
