Dear Reader,
Thank you for another great year. As we wind down our year here at the Unwinnable offices, I just wanted to take another second to express my gratitude for you, reader. With you in mind, we’re hard at work on our 2025 themes after we take our holiday nap. We’re going to try and highlight more new voices, give homes to those experiencing layoffs and just be our quirky selves. But for now, thank you.
This month’s cover features weird old Christmas postcards, collaged together by our long suffering designer, Derek Kinsman. Big round of applause for our friend from the north!
For our feature, Elijah Beahm writes about . . . A COMIC! We haven’t had a lot of writing about comics lately and I missed it. Elijah really gets at the making of an ending in Shutter.
For this month’s Funeral Rites, brought to you by Exalted Funeral, Alyssa Wejebe visits the Land of Eem.
As for the accounting of our regular rogues . . . Oluwatayo Adewole fires up the time machine back to 1985! Maddi Chilton bops along to Blackpink. Stu Horvath goes to PAX Unplugged. Emma Kostopolus punches a ticket to Silent Hill. Matt Marrone fires up the old Victrola. Natasha Ochshorn comes to my hometown to talk about some Good folks. Justin Reeve takes us to nouveau and exciting places. Rob Rich doesn’t want games to be a job (even though he just told us how much he likes tilling a field!). Levi Rubeck morks and borks. And bringing us home, Phoenix Simms dives into the world of status ailments.
In case you missed us last month, or this is your first month, we’ll be shuttering our Twitter and migrating to Bluesky. It’s been a long time coming but we’re finally going to pull the plug and migrate to a place where our dear culture vultures can feel safer. For the more photo oriented, check out our Instagram!
See you all in the next Exploits!
