Delay: The Deadly Foe of Spider-Man

You’re all doomed!

Doomed

Spider-ManUnwinnable is no stranger to Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark. See here, here, here and here. So, it really didn’t come as much of a surprise that the musical has once again been delayed.

According to reports, the musical’s producers are planning a massive overhaul of the $65 million production. Said overhaul would delay production for approximately two to three weeks and possibly delay the premiere up to three months.

I feel bad for the cast and crew.  The bumper I saw on the evening news plopped their plight in with a rant by Hollywood’s resident warlock, Charlie Sheen.  Man, Julian Sands needs to pay that guy a visit!  Ah well, I digress…

In all seriousness, it’s a damn shame. A lot of people put a lot of hard work into this play and I feel bad that their work has become fodder for network news and cable TV talking heads.

However, there is still at least one Spider-Man musical opening in New York next week. The Spidey Project has a budget of zero dollars; the cast and crew donated their time, while the theater and rehearsal space donated their respective spaces.  Masterminded by comedian Justin Moran, The Spidey Project will open one month after its initial announcement.

Via The Spidey Project’s Twitter feed: “About to start our first run-through. Show in six days!!! So far no injuries or creative delays ;)”

Proving to be the hottest ticket in town, The Spidey Project has two free performances at The People’s Improv Theater on Monday, March 14.  Both shows “sold out” online in about thirty seconds. So NYC will get to see its Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man in March after all.
