Amy Pond to Say Goodbye at End of Season
Dr. Who companions Amy and Rory are planning to settle down. According to the Daily Star, the pair will leave the TARDIS at the end of the season under the pretense of being a proper family. The decision comes down from writers who have thought it best to “rest” the pair despite overwhelming popularity with fans. An emotionally charged season finale will see the Doctor take off – alone.
Although the duo will return home, the divorce isn’t final. Amy and Rory will make appearances and work from home to help their Doctor.
This is a necessary shame. Amy Pond has been a fantastic companion to the Doctor and the obvious chemistry between actors Karen Gillan and Matt Smith has been nothing short of transcendent. Arthur Darvill, who plays Rory Williams, has been no less important, evolving from erstwhile tagalong to a vital presence for both Amy and the Doctor. But all good things must come to an end. The Doctor’s life is a succession of people saying goodbye, and it’s time for Smith and Gillan to do just that.
