Greek Mythology Themed Games
Our love of Greek mythology has never seemed to wane over the years, and maybe that’s because there is nothing like the timeless wisdom imparted in so many of those myths. In fact, there are so many movies and television shows themed with the Greek gods of mythology that the interest is renewed once again in the 21st century. With gods like Thor being glamourized in Marvel movies and series, who could deny the relevance of Greek mythology in today’s world? The same holds true for so many games and if you are a mythology buff, you might be interested in trying your hand at a few of these games.
Games for the PC
There once was a time when games for the PC meant we’d lock ourselves in our game room, such as it was back then, and take out the old Atari or Nintendo and play to our heart’s content. However, if you were into socializing then you could always hit up an arcade for games such as:
- Pinball machine – Mars, God of War
- Pinball machine game – Medusa
Both of those games were released back in 1981 but were still going strong in the 90s. Internet connectivity wasn’t yet a thing, so gaming was still limited to home game systems, the PC, and, of course, video games like those mentioned above. There were also arcade-style games featuring Greek gods of mythology in many of the world’s land-based casinos, but again, internet connectivity wasn’t yet developed.
The Age of Connectivity
Jumping forward several decades, you can now find many Greek mythology games in online casinos such as Age of the Gods: God of Storms. Many are slots/pokies-type games you once found in land-based casinos and are played similarly. You ‘spin’ for rows to line up in the same way except you use a joystick or mouse to synthesize the spin.
Several games based on Greek mythology are also available to play on PCs, mobile devices, and gaming systems with internet connectivity. These are typically games you can play in groups, against a single player, or alone, as the mood strikes you.
A Sample of Mythology Games Trending Today
If you are interested in which games are trending today, you could check out games on review sites but you may need to do a Google search to find games based specifically on mythology. You will find that there are several offerings such as:
- A Total War Saga: Troy
- Zeus: Master of Olympus
- Homer’s Odyssey
- Age of Mythology
- Assassin’s Creed Odyssey
Here, you will probably find that the Assassin’s Creed games are still popular today and when it comes to role-playing games, RPGs, this is still one of the all-time video game classics. Due to this role-playing feature, it is a popular game with gamers who want a bit of socialization while they play.
Nothing Better Than Mythology in Gaming
No matter what kind of game you are playing, there is something to be said for mastering the games based on Greek mythology. Many of the ancient myths were centered on warfare. What schoolchild didn’t study the Trojan Horse or Homer’s Odyssey in classes, even today? Not only do they teach the strategy of competition and warfare, but Greek mythology has been, and probably always will be, a touchpoint in philosophical theory.
We look at mythology as ancient philosophical stories, but if you look around you, you can see the relevance even today. Take, for example, how we call some computer viruses a trojan. Now think about how the Trojan war was won by the warriors hidden in the Trojan horse. If you want to have fun and learn a bit about the relevance of those old myths in our lives today, check out games based on Greek mythology for an exercise in making connections. Connecting the past to our present is a mind-altering experience you can get by playing some of these games. Check it out!
