  • The Champions League always provides fans with teams that don’t necessarily seem strong enough on paper to challenge the elite yet always seem to find a way to do so. With that in mind, here are ten teams you should watch out for in this year’s league. With the group stages just around the corner, check out todays predictions for football to get you in the mood.

This club may not have the budgets of their competitors, but they did a brilliant job nonetheless of bringing this squad up to the highest degree possible. They finished third in last year’s Serie A and surprised many with their consistent displays under Gian Piero Gasperini.

Lille may well have lost Rafael Leao to Milan this summer, but they quickly spotted that Victor Osimhen would be his replacement on the forward line, a decision that has meant they’ve found the back of the net four times in Ligue 1 in four matches and a goal every 85 minutes on average. Christophe Galtier is a smart guy who knows his teams’ strengths and weaknesses well, and the team feel confident that they can challenge anyone to progress.

    RB Leipzig

There’s a clear divide between the top two in Germany but RB Leipzig are inching ever closer. They pride themselves on signing younger players and developing them into stronger talents and it’s a model that has worked well for them in the past. However, they’ve since littered their squad with incredibly strong potential and they have a great chance of progressing.

Valencia is the reigning Copa del Rey champions and they also reached the semi-finals of the Europa League. Owning to a tumultuous summer they’re off to a slow start in La Liga but they’re still worth a look based on how they performed last year and based on who they’re up against in Group H.

Juventus is one of the best picks for this year’s Champions League, having won 8 league titles in a tow and added Maurizio Sarri as their manager. Their squad is one of the best in the world and they have world-class performers on their side, most notably with Matthijs de Ligt and Cristiano Ronaldo.

    Inter Milan

With the arrival of some quality summer signings, Inter Milan could be ones to watch this season. Their investments over the summer could place them in a position to become a force to be reckoned with once again.

Ajax have managed to hold on to the bulk of their team, despite losing some key players, and for this reason they could well be ready to surprise in the Champions League this year.

    Tottenham Hotspur

Last year’s finalists are surely one of the teams to look out for this year, though they have had quite a shaky start to their Premier League campaign, winning UEFA champions league could really give the fans something to cheer about this season.

    RB Salzburg

RB Salzburg dominate in the Austrian Bundesliga and have taken the title six seasons in a row, so it’s no surprise that they’re potential contenders for success in this year’s Champions League as well.

    Paris Saint-Germain

Since 2014, PSG have spent a whopping €1 billion on investing in some of the top players to boost their squad and as one of the leading teams in the world, they’re definitely ones to watch in this competition.
