How does an ARC Welder work

If you don’t already know, Google has recently released a new app that allows its users to run Android apps on Chrome. It is called ARC Welder and this is why you should download ARC Welder.

The abbreviation “ARC” stands for “App Runtime for Chrome” and it is still a work in progress, so do not get angry if you happen to see a few bugs while using it.

You also have to remember that installing an app from the Google Play Store will not work. You definitely have to have something that will act as an ‘installer’, so you might just as well download ARC!

So this is how ARC Welder works:

Pick and download an APK file (that’s the Android application you wish to play). There are hundreds and hundreds of them, so do take your time to browse through them.

Once that is done, open your ARC Welder. There, load up you desire to run and cross your fingers for it to work!

Sounds pretty easy, right? Well, if you are interested, this is how to install ARC Welder on to your computer.

Step 1. Go to the Google Chrome Web Store and type ‘ARC Welder’ in the search bar.

Step 2. Once the app pops up on your computer screen, click the ‘Install’ button.

Step 3. Add the program to the list of your Chrome apps (you can do so by clicking the ‘add’ button).

Step 4. After you have finished the download, several APKs will be open for you to run. You can get them from many different places – just search through what the Internet has to offer you!

Step 5. After you are finished with all that searching and (hopefully) downloading some of the apps you wish to run, proceed to this step. Open the Chrome Browser > Chrome Apps > find ARC Welder and start it.

Step 6. On your first run of the app, you will have to pick a default directory so that the APK you have chosen will have a place to be written to. You can do so by clicking on the “Choose” button. You can either select a favorite location of yours or create a completely new one.

Step 7. In order to actually load up the application you have chosen previously, click on the “Add your APK” button.

Step 8. Doing so will take you to the folder you have saved your APKs into. There, select one you want to open and play your options up in order to get the best experience. You can do pretty much anything – choose the orientation, the metadata you cannot leave lying out there and are desperate to add – you name it!

Note: you don’t really have to do all the shebang if you don’t want to – just hit the default button and leave things as they are. Once that is done, press the “Launch App” button.

So what does using an ARC Welder give? Well, personally, we like it because it helps loading all the apps directly as a Chrome app, unlike other similar apps. With those, you will have to run them prior to doing anything. A pain in the arse!

Please note that you can only run one Android application at a time. So don’t be frustrated if the very next time you decide to load up a game or something, the previous ARC you used will be removed.

No matter how unfinished and unnerving that might seem, it is still incredibly fascinating how you can be able to load your favorite Android app on Windows, OS X, or any other OS that has a Google Chrome on it!
