Totally agree. The open-world genre is notorious for padding a game's story with trivial collectibles and side quests. As the years go by, I tend to prefer games like Firewatch and Oxenfree, shorter, more direct experiences that linger long after you put down the controller.

I enjoyed the ending of Diablo III. I enjoyed the mechanics of the gameplay too. Because I enjoyed it, I bought the expansion later. I didn't have time to play the expansion at all though because friggin' life happened. That's really about the norm for me. Since the beginning of the CD-Rom era, most games have just felt like they took too long. It's like they're not well edited and condensed anymore. And I'm not interested in scheduling time to spend on one game world aesthetic for over a month just to see the end.
