And reading this, it struck me that I played it in a similar way to what you allude to in your final sentence; to explore my own cultural history, across England, Scotland and Scandinavia. I was lucky in that the Old Gods, featuring things like the Great Heathen Army, came out early in the game’s life. I haven’t even ventured into down North Africa, let alone for east to India!

The game is endlessly fascinating and, really, has ruined all other strategy games for me. How can I go back to playing Civilisation now, when I’ve seen what CKII can do?
