I routinely used to head to the horror section as a lad and deliberately force myself to look at the VHS covers. And yes, looking through adult eyes at the movies contained therein now gives me a chuckle.

The main one that used to freak the snot out of me was the cover for The Incredible Melting Man. Holy hell, did that have some disgusting stuff going on. But the movie? Pretty poxy when I look back at it these days.

Another was Mother's Day. While I've not seen the movie (I've seen the trailer and it seems like a pretty grotty little exercise) its VHS cover is forever burned into my brain. That old woman's leering half-skull rictus! And, as a kid, the thought of opening a nicely-wrapped gift only to find a human head inside make my skin crawl.

Also, to give Chopping Mall its fair due, it's not afraid to dump a bunch of fake blood into things. And it does have a pretty sweet head explosion in it.
