The best Persona is the first game, and If you want Lynchian the first game came off the heels of Twin Peaks probably capitalizing on its unexpected popularity among female audiences in Japan. It also has the best artwork of all of the Megaten games which until recently (P3) were all done by the same concept artist. However the compositions in Persona (the first game) are so well done, fine art more or less, I'm not convinced the artist (Kazuma) did not have some help.

Anyway had to leave my mark just to say I tried to play P4. You need to warn people that the game is a wall of dialogue for hours. At least that is what I am guessing, because I tried to play it taking turn with friends (in shifts) and eventually gave up after the game did not start for an hour, and then we just kept advancing the text as fast as possible for a good while and it still would not end. I'm sorry, this is not a game. This is for diehard P3 fans only.

I just recently reached the end of Persona 4, and while I loved the characters and the game mechanics and the way the game wasn't afraid to speak to me in subtle tones about mature - in the true meaning of the word - subject matter, the realisation which truly blew me away was that Atlus have built this dungeon-crawler around a murder mystery where you are permitted to lose, one where you the player are expected to have been paying attention to the story, and are required to solve a genuine whodunnit.

It's even more impressive that I feel like I came to the right conclusion through a genuine mix of deduction, a process of elimination and a ten-minute discussion with my wife regarding the possible suspects, without ever feeling like I was being led to the obvious answer.

What a game!
