Because That was the problem with the prequel movies, not enough liberal guilt.

Well, I gotta disagree that The Avengers was a "masterpiece", but I do agree about being a bit more fluid with the material. Aside from playing (and loving) the KotOR games, I don't have any experience of non-movie Star Wars material. I'm sure great stuff exists there, but I'm not above writers combining characters, events, storylines, or alien races to come out with even stronger ones. But I do really like the idea about unveiling the racism, sexism, and xenophobia of the Empire. That would add yet another dimension of un-likability, rather than, "oh, they're still here! and still evil!"

Also, though I realize it's a necessity that they use CGI (and lots of it), I think having at least one semi-main character who is a puppet, and not filled in with CGI, would be a fantastic idea. What helped define the original trilogy was the physicality of the alien races, and how many ways Lucas and the actors had to get around actual constraints to make these aliens believable and different.

I'm of the opinion that much of the EU, aside from maybe a few story ideas, should be thrown out wholesale. Take a few characters, sure, but write new stories. Look at Marvel's recent movie works as guidelines. Avengers was a masterpiece, and it ignored pretty much everything other than the essence of the characters it drew on. I don't ant to see the Thrawn trilogy any more than I want to see Marvel's Civil War on the big screen.
