A young Kirk has the bravado to re-rig a rigged game. Maybe the difference between those that can force their way through a crappy life and end up succeeding versus those that can't is the idea that something is possible. If you are convinced that you simply can't hack college (or a trade, college is not the only way to live comfortably) and the best you can do is barely survive, then you'll never attempt to improve your lot in life. At best, you'll put in an effort and have your doubts confirmed at the first failure.

Yeah, I have to agree. Damage control is not the only option.
