They weren't entirely sure what to believe but went on the cautious side and tried to raise me to be wary of D&D. So, at 18, when I started playing, I didn't tell them. And when I finally did, I had to think really carefully before doing it. I ended up framing it in terms of collaborative storytelling and after a few "but you don't really think you're a halfling druid, right?" questions, they accepted it as another of my geeky hobbies.
