In reply to <a href="https://unwinnable.com/2010/11/08/analog-or-death/#comment-3661">Don Becker</a>.

I would like to echo Ian's comment and also say, "Get off my lawn!" but I accompany mine with the shooting of my finger gun.

For the purposes of this comment I will only discuss audio.

I forget the exact wording, but in the liner notes to a boxed set, King Crimson founder Robert Fripp once said that there is no substitute for brand new vinyl played with a brand new needle on a brand new turntable. But none of that ever stays brand new, thus the sound deteriorates, so digital is the best way to ensure fidelity. Forget about MP3s - they're ridiculously compressed in order to fit more songs into a finite amount of space, so unless you're ripping your CDs at the highest possible bitrate the sound will suffer. But there are plenty of lossless codecs (your iPod can play Apple Lossless, your PC can play that and FLAC), and DVDs and Blu-Ray have improved on the relative low sample rate of the CD. Plenty of bands have released DVD Audio discs that sound as good as vinyl, at least to these ears, and an optical disc can withstand a good deal more abuse than an LP can.

In other words, I for one welcome our new digital overlords.
