It's getting the bootloader wedged into the firmware of the Dingoo. The process is a bit different for every variant of the board and LCD driver, of which there are many.

You're absolutely right about the PSP though, if you've already got a patched PSP it's a no-brainer. You're better off just using that. In fact, I think the PSP emulator (PSPint) is just a different version of the same emulator that runs on the GP2Xs and Dingux.

For what it's worth, for all of the versions of that emulator I've messed with, every key is mappable, the four primary buttons, the shoulder buttons, and even the volume buttons (on the GP2X). It's still not quite enough sometimes though. That's one more reason I'm looking forward to getting my Pandora, assuming they ever get it shipped…
