So you didn't like Bioshock. That's cool. It sounds like your major gripes were that the moral dilemma wasn't fleshed out enough (which I can agree w/) and that it's another FPS (which I'm confused about; what were you expecting or what did you want for this game to have/be back when it was released in 2008?). Bioshock is still one of my favorite games, for all the reasons that kills already explained above. Yeah, the gameplay's like every other FPS but the story, the mysterious characters, and the fun of discovering what happened to Rapture is what sets it apart.

Since we're coming clean, I've got to admit that I'm not really a fan of the Metal Gear Solid series (particularly, everything after MGS2: Sons of Liberty). And I find a lot of Hayao Miyazaki's work to be overrated.

Of course it plays like a first person shooter; it is. The magic of bioshock is the story. It creates likable and strongly dislikable characters without ever seeing them, rewards you for not playing it like a speedrun, with both diaries and power to the people upgrade stations, and there are a ton of darkly humorous bits if you look around. Fallout 3 was another great game, if you made it one. The campaign wasnt spectacular, the moral imperatives weren't very dramatic (attacked by strangers in black armor, or Wild West dusters, you choose). It was great if you went out, found the audiotapes, crawled caves, and chuckled at the dark humor. (personally i liked the guy who electrocuted himself in the toilet with microfusion cells). The story creates despair, the gameplay of any FPS can be summed up by playing counterstrike with the redbox/ bluebox models.

90% agree. I started it when I first got my xbox (a game I think I borrowed from you), and got a little into it, but it never really hooked me. I think I need to give it a second go around before I throw in that last 10%.
